Mission:
The Talbot Lacrosse Association's (TLA) mission is to provide a safe and fun environment in which children will learn athletic skills, and to promote a culture of fairness, respect, responsibility and commitment through the game of lacrosse. Talbot Lacrosse Association is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and is operated by volunteer board members and coaching staff.
USA Lacrosse Supported Program:
TLA, like many youth lacrosse programs across the Nation, TLA is supported and governed by USA Lacrosse. Great News: It is with long anticipated excitement that Lacrosse has finally been approved as an Olympic sport, and we are looking forward to seeing great things for the greatest game on two feet in the World! (Maybe even a former TLA player or two)
A separate annual USA Lacrosse membership is required to participate in the Talbot Lacrosse Program. The USA Lacrosse membership provides your player access to all USA Lacrosse programs, discounts for events, many other great benefits, and a subscription to USA Lacrosse Magazine.
ESYLA Member:
TLA is a member of the Eastern Shore Youth Lacrosse Association, and we do travel to other team fields throughout the Eastern Shore including Kent County, Salisbury, Dorchester, Caroline, Atlantic, Camden, and Beach Lacrosse.
We expect all registered players to participate in every practice and every game. If travel is an issue due to transportation, please reach out to your Coach and work out carpooling with other team families. Besides, it gives the kids an opportunity to make new, lifelong friends (we speak from experience!)
Ages of Players:
Boys and girls in elementary school and middle school between the ages of 5 and 14 (grades K4/K5 through the end of 8th grade) are eligible to play.
Dates of the Season:
Our season begins with practices around the 1st Saturday of March. Games generally begin the 1st weekend in April and continue for 8 weeks. Some teams continue their season with optional post-season tournaments. The Starters program (K4/K5) begins around the 1st weekend in April and continues for 8 weeks.
Experience:
Talbot Lacrosse is open to all kids, regardless of their experience. Many start young and stay with the program through the end of their 8th grade, and have many, many older kids who have never played, who have joined our program, and then go on to play in high school, college and beyond. The greatest experience is the willingness to learn, work as a team member, and the desire to improve skills every time.
Scholarship Policy
Talbot Lacrosse Association does not want financial capability to in any way inhibit local children participating in our program. We recognize that the cost of registration is significant for some families. If these costs are a burden, Talbot Lacrosse Association has a limited number of scholarships available to provide assistance with Talbot Lacrosse registration fees. Scholarships cannot, however, cover US Lacrosse registration fees.
Families interested in receiving a scholarship should send a letter, expressing this need, to Talbot Lacrosse Association, PO Box 2014, Easton, MD 21601. You may also email this information to the Talbot Lacrosse President at
[email protected] Letters/emails must be received prior to the close of registration. All inquiries will be reviewed by the board's Scholarship Committee.
Volunteer!
Our non-profit organization is fully run by volunteers. From the team parents, to the Coaches, and our Board Members, every one of them contribute their time to keeping this great organization going! Many, if not all of us have been touched by the game, whether as a sideline parent for their kids, or as player in school, college and for fun. We love this sport, and we are committed to this program. As our kids grow up, and pursue other organizations or activities, we too, must go on to other things. That is why it is critical for parents to always try to find a way to contribute. Even a little goes a long way, and believe it or not,
VOLUNTEERING IS FUN! You make new friends, you can offer your professional skill sets in a new way, and you the parent, will be setting a great example for your kids on the importance of willingly giving back.
Thanks so much for reading all of this, and now, go pick up a stick and practice throwing with your kids!
